Mental Health Project
This artifact is a class project I did in my Intro To Psychology course during my Fall, Freshman Semester. In it, I talked about mental health and how it effected many different aspects of the lives of college students. I showcased various pieces of research and analytics that showed some of the stress that college students were undergoing, especially incoming Freshman and their transfer from high school to college. I talked about how disorders and mental blockades resulted in the buildup of stress, and how outside factors such as Covid-19 and life at home contributed to the amount of stress a college student endured. I was also able to convey the overall message of mental health being extremely important, by utilizing various sources both governmental and individual, that really demonstrated just how important mental health awareness was.
This project resonated with me greatly, due to the attraction to such a study because of my own major being Psychology. I was able to get my first hands-on experience with my field of study, which was an outstanding achievement. I got to utilize knowledge of said field that interested me, and applied it in a special way that helped convey what I was trying to talk about. This project itself helped me strengthen my analytical and perceptive skills, all why furthering my knowledge with the human brain, how it reacts to stress, and the importance of mental health for both college students and everyone else.
Philosophy Paper
This artifact is a paper done for Philosophy during my senior year. In it, you are tasked with analyzing an epistemological argument, and explain the subject material, and apply a philosophical concept to said material. Within this paper, the writer is supposed to the conclude all of this by breaking down the argument and concept itself, and seeing how it fits into the entire world around us. This was a very good introduction into critical thinking on a collegiate level, while also developing inferential skills and concepts we’ve learned from the class itself.
The paper was significant for me due to the nature of writing it overall. I was able to demonstrate my abilities as a student and philosophical learner under the guidance of my professor. From then on, I have constantly used said skills and applied them to various aspects of schooling and work. This paper has also showcased an importance in the principles of understanding research, and how to apply these pieces of research into the real world and current phenomena.
Dick’s Sporting Goods
My final artifact showcases a job that I found to be both the most enjoyable, and a large lesson overall. This artifact is my Dick’s Sporting Goods shirt, from when I worked with the company the Summer before my Freshman year in college. The shirt itself holds many memories, alongside many trials and tribulations that I had to overcome with my time within the company itself. The job helped a lot with improving my social skills with customers and coworkers alike, as well as helping me maintain responsibilities that will improve in signification as I go through life.
While working at Dick’s Sporting Goods, I was able to learn many valuable skills that would eventually aid me within the future. These skills include the likes of effective communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Along with these skills came a sense of responsibility that I had. This responsibility involved the likes of taking care of customers and their needs, restocking the store and doing inventory, and being sincere and honest with my fellow coworkers. These are great skills to have for anyone, and have helped me within my time in college with not only the classes I have taken so far, but with the individuals I have met as well.
