Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated
As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, I am heavily involved in dedicating myself to service amongst the community. I uphold an Executive position as the Sergeant at Arms for the Kappa Iota chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Within this position, I show my leadership skills through my ability to protect and serve my sorority. While being a member of this prestigious sorority, I have had the opportunity to help plan and coordinate events for peers on campus and within the community. One event I helped coordinate was an event focused on mental health that targeted my sorority’s values on Empowering Our Families. That event was one of many that allowed me to show my idealistic and innovative characteristics.
Donald W. Reynolds Boys & Girls Club
Working with children has become one of my fondest career experiences. I truly enjoy learning and interacting with their little personalities. Knowing that I have the capability to influence their minds at a young age in hopes of being a vital asset to their future developments is an achievement in itself. I have been working with School Kids Connections (SKC) through the Boys & Girls Club for over a year now, and this experience has taught me the importance of building relations amongst different age groups as it highlights my communication skills and compassion.
The Salvation Army
Volunteering at The Salvation Army allowed me to get a glimpse of life from a different perspective. Meeting people from various backgrounds whether it was ethnically or financially was an opportunity that really resonated with my desire to want to always help others. You never know what someone is going through, and I felt like I was giving back even though my efforts were just through organizing clothes.
