Emerging Leaders:
After completing an engaging leadership program on campus at the University of Arkansas called Emerging Leaders, I gained a certificate of completion of the program as well as the Integrity award at our ending ceremony. This certificate declares that I successfully completed the program with a new competency for leadership. I spent multiple hours a week with the leadership team and mentors learning about leadership styles, how to become more confident as a leader, and how to apply it to real life situations like job interviews. We met weekly to discuss all areas leadership could be important and how to become a stronger leader. We performed mock interviews, played team building activities and learned basic skills like writing a resume. This program also focused on diversity and inclusion, ethics, professionalism and mentoring.
This taught me major leadership skills that have taken effect on my life in many aspects for example getting promoted to shift leader at my job, or continuing on to be involved in Sophomore council on campus. Both of these things demanded confidence in leadership and I learned that from Emerging Leaders. Completing this program taught me more about myself than I thought it would as I gained confidence in myself as a leader and was encouraged to enter the professional world with new foundational skills. This program was the first on campus program I joined and it made me more confident in joining more on campus groups.
Learning my leadership style has made me a much more confident leader because I know how to work with certain types of people and I know my strengths and weaknesses as a leader. I am now able to apply that to future career positions and beyond.
