My second artifact is a virtual lesson I taught using screencastify for my Technology in Education class. The lesson was intended for students taking Spanish II. The goal of the lesson was to teach students about what the main idea of a story is and how to find it by scaffolding information. I used a website called Screencastify to record myself teaching a lesson and at the same time it recorded my screen.

It is beneficial as a future teacher to know how to use this site due to school constantly being canceled because of the weather or illness. Knowing how to use this will allow me to continue to teach my students outside of the classroom setting and be able to get back into the classroom without missing information. This also connects to career development due to the process of creating a lesson plan. It gave me insight on how to organize my work, create a creative lesson, allow students to collaborate, form inclusion, and find a different form of communication for the students. I believe the best thing about this method is that students are able to learn at their own time and pace. They are able to rewatch a part if they didn’t understand it completely the first time. If I were to change something about the way I set up my lesson, it would be to allow my students to read the story on their own and then have them get back on and continue the video. I think that would save more time and allow students to work on their comprehension and speaking skills.

Having this project will allow me to use it in my future classroom and if I need to add anything to make it better I can. It has allowed me to grow my knowledge in lesson planning and creating entertaining but informational virtual lessons. As a result of this, I have acknowledged that in order to have an engaging lesson, I will need to get to know my students and their interests.
