I was born to be a counselor. Raised by a single mother from the age of ten, our focus on spending quality family time has shaped my values. The loss of my father at a young age catalyzed an accelerated journey to maturity, endowing me with valuable life experiences and a unique perspective. My ability to empathize, understand, and offer solutions has been refined through navigating challenges, including coming out as gay in high school. Alongside my family, I actively engage in local art workshops, volunteer at the food bank, and enjoy board games and movies – fostering not only a strong bond but also honing my communication and teamwork skills.
In my high school years, I took a leadership role in the Gay-Straight Alliance group, where I refined my skills in facilitating discussions and creating an inclusive environment. My passion for mental health services grew, motivating me to research psychology programs and find my academic home at the University of Arkansas. Currently pursuing a major in psychology with a sociology minor, I blend academic knowledge with practical skills. My journey is fueled by a desire to contribute to the field, combining my life experiences with my academic pursuits. As I approach my graduation in May 2024, my skills in empathy, communication, and leadership continue to evolve. I am eager to further cultivate my abilities through hands-on experience within the psychology field, gearing up for my ultimate goal of opening a rehabilitation center.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I possess strong analytical skills, an empathetic approach to problem-solving, and a dedication to fostering positive change. Through therapy, I aim to empower individuals, helping them navigate stress and enhance their overall well-being.
